million people in the United States caring for their spouse, parents,
neighbors,
friends, or other relatives. Here in Wyoming 23% of adults
currently
are providing caregiver tasks. Although Caregiving can be a
rewarding
experience it may take its toll on the caregiver.

The caregiver is at
risk of suffering poor physical health as well as poor emotional
health.
Services and supports are available to caregivers that enhance one’s

being.

EDUCATION & TRAINING
Opportunities to
gain informative knowledge and experience in becoming a confident and
effective
caregiver.
ASSISTANCE
Medical equipment
is available through the Loan Closet. Books and videos are
available
through the Lending Library.
RESPITE
Respite is offered
on an intermittent basis, provided with an experienced respite care
worker.
Based on a sliding fee scale, respite is affordable for everyone.
COUNSELING
& SUPPORT
Support groups meet
on a regular basis. This is a great way to pick up ideas and
tips
from caregivers with first hand experience. Professional
counseling
is also available .
SUPPLEMENTAL SERVICES
Supplies, equipment,
and some home modifications may be provided on a cost-sharing basis.

Resources are available
for grandparents over 60 raising grandchildren 18 years and younger.
MANAGING STRESS
GET ENOUGH REST
Enough sleep to
awake feeling refreshed.
GET PLENTY OF EXERCISE
Breathing exercises,
meditation, and other techniques may help. Try to get 30
minutes
or more of moderate exercise everyday. Consult you
health-care provider
before starting an exercise program.
EAT HEALTHY FOODS
Limit sugar, sodium,
and fatty foods. Eat plenty of whole-grain foods, fruits, and
vegetables.
TAKE TIME OUT FOR
FUN
You’ll be more efficient
if you’re refreshed - take breaks and relax.
TEAM WORK
Work as a team with
the physicians, nurses, therapists, home health aids, case managers or
social workers, and other family members.
